Making an appointment

Tracey Huntley is a specialist Oral and Maxillofacial surgeon so most patients are referred to Tracey by a dentist, general practitioner or another treating medical or dental specialist.

Tracey also welcomes patients who have been recommended her service by friends, family or colleagues but it is important to remember all patients need a formal referral from a doctor or dentist to make a claim with Medicare and some private health funds.

Appointments can be made over the phone on (03) 9731 8700 from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.

Wisdom teeth

Surgical removal of impacted third molars (wisdom teeth) is the most commonly performed procedure by Tracey and most Oral and Maxillofacial surgeons.

The predominant reasons for the surgical removal of wisdom teeth are tooth decay, infection, pathology or when their presence adversely affects the health of adjacent teeth.

As an experienced and qualified surgeon, Tracey will perform a thorough consultation taking a comprehensive history and performing a detailed examination. She may need to order extra tests such as CT scans or specialized oral X-rays to complete the clinical picture. With this information Tracey will formulate the best treatment plan for your individual needs.

In addition, Tracey will also take into consideration other factors such as your general health, the risk of injury to adjacent structures, infection and time lost to recovery.

Tracey is happy to discuss her assessment of the treatment plan during any consultation or at any stage during the treatment.

What to bring for your first appointment

Please bring to your first appointment your:
Referral letter from your dentist, general practitioner or any other referring medical or dental specialist
Any X-rays, including CT scans, if you have them
A list of current medications, if any, that you are taking.

Initial visit

Your initial visit will consist of an assessment of your condition including relevant history and an examination. Tracey will review you case history and any X-rays or CT scans you bring along. If required, further tests or X-rays may be ordered at your initial visit.

x ray

X-rays

X-rays are high-energy radiation that is able to penetrate most substances (to varying extents) to create an image on photographic film or plate (permitting radiography). In Oral and Maxillofacial surgery, they are used in low doses to create images that are used to aid diagnosis and assist in treatment planning.

CT Scan

Computerized tomography scans, or CT scans, are pictures of structures within the body created by a computer that takes the data from multiple X-ray images and turns them into 3D pictures.

The CT scan can reveal some soft-tissue and other structures that are not seen in conventional X-rays.

Treatment plan

Following the initial visit, and any subsequent visit to review additional tests or X-rays, a treatment plan will be put into action.

The treatment plan may require a procedure to be scheduled at one of Tracey’s treating hospitals, such as the Werribee Mercy Hospital, or at the South Base Stone Consulting Rooms under local or sedation anaesthesia if clinically appropriate.

Sometimes the anaesthetist may need to contact you prior to the procedure if your medical history requires it.

If you have any questions or concerns during this process please feel free to contact us at any time.

Post procedure

After your procedure you will be given comprehensive post-operative instructions.
Tracey Huntley’s nurse will contact you within 48 hours of the procedure to ensure that your recovery is going well. If you are experiencing major problems then use the emergency contact details listed on the post-operative instructions or attend your local emergency department.

Fees & Payment

Patient fees will depend on the treatment required and the complexity of the procedure performed.

They will also depend on the patient’s level of health insurance and whether Medicare or the Department of Veteran Affairs covers these services.

We recognise that dental and surgical work is essential to our patients’ health and comfort but can have a significant impact on their budget. Our schedule of fees reflects the highest standard of specialist care and every effort is made to keep these at an affordable level.

To assist with budgeting and in the interest of transparency, we will supply patients with a fully itemised estimate prior to treatment.

There may be out of pocket costs, or gap fees, but these will be discussed during your visit.

All consultation fees are payable on the day, and fees for surgical procedures need to be settled before the procedure is carried out.

To assist with payment, Medicare Ezyclaim and Medicare Online are available at the South Base Stone Consultancy Rooms. All major credit cards are accepted and many health fund claims can also be made on-site.
